Public speaking Tips!

Speaking in public does not come easy or naturally to most people, and yet it is definitely a skill that you can foster and improve upon using the right tips and tricks.

Prepare thoroughly
Especially when you are first starting it is important that you properly prepare before you deliver your public speech. This means you will need to thoroughly research your topic, and potentially make a presentation with slides that will make your speech easier to follow. Apart from preparing the slides and content of the speech you should also spend some time rehearsing your presentation and speech. Recording your rehearsals can be an effective way of seeing which points you need to improve on or which parts of your presentation are not moving as smoothly as you might like.

Engage with your audience
The better you know who your audience is the easier it will become for you to engage with them with jokes, questions, and gestures. An engaged audience is always more fun to talk to as you won’t feel like they are judging you or criticizing your every move.

Have variations in your tone
When rehearsing your speech make sure to include variations to your volume and pitch as these can help the audience remain engaged during a longer speech. As part of your variations make sure to include pauses for your audience to engage with you or have the time to take in what you have talked about.

Keep your message clear
The most important thing to remember when public speaking is to keep your message clear and repeat it frequently during your speech. The one thing you really want to avoid is having the audience question what the point of your speech was, which is why you should reinforce your message frequently.

Public speaking while nerve-wracking can become far easier and more enjoyable once you take the right steps to prepare. Always retaining your audience engagement and making sure that your message is clear is going to allow you to feel more confident and comfortable in your speaking abilities and will help ensure your success.
