Geopolitics specifically refers to the relationship between politics, geography, and international relations. It is an examination of how different factors specifically relating to the locality and terrain of a certain territory might affect the state’s politics, economy, and position in cases of conflict. This study is deeply focused on understanding how strategy differs in different territories based on these factors.
Geopolitics is currently heavily focused on politics and international relations, especially in cases of conflict. The study does not extend just to the present time but also to history, looking at how certain territories became political and economic centers. In its mode modern form geopolitical theory is specifically vested in understanding how a territory’s geographic position might affect its security, economic, and even strategic interest.
In order to better understand these concepts there is extensive analysis that takes place to determine how geographic location affects resource availability and the effect that resources have on territorial disputes. In large part, the analysis aims to form strategies and politics that will be internationally and economically beneficial for the territory so as to further secure not only its interests but also its position.
Finally, there is a connection between geopolitics and business as the position of a territory could affect its diplomatic and business opportunities. However, geopolitics does not usually deal with micro business but rather the economy of a country as a whole.
