Developing Emotional intelligence (EI)

Much like with any other metric, there is always space to involve your capabilities and your emotional intelligence. This would mean that you would gain greater understanding, recognition, and even control over your own emotions. When it comes to improving your Emotional Intelligence, you might find that several different practices and approaches are going to be helpful in your endeavors.

Self-Awarenes
These start with increasing your self-awareness. The greater your level of self-awareness is the more you will begin to understand your thoughts and feelings in every given moment. To increase your self-awareness, you can start with solitary practices such as meditation, mindfulness practices and even journaling, or try to gain feedback from trusted friends and family members regarding your emotional behaviors and reactions. An important step in this process is to not judge your emotions but rather welcome and understand the emotions you are feeling.

Self-Regulation
Once you start having a much clearer understanding of your emotions you are going to start being able to control your emotions more when you are in stressful situations. As part of your self-regulation techniques and toolbox, you can try different breathing techniques that can help you calm down your body when you are feeling stressed or angry. There are also cognitive reframing and impulsive control techniques that you can start employing in order to gain more control over your emotional patterns and abstain from reacting impulsively.

Empathy
Emotional Intelligence is not just about your own emotions, but also about the emotions of those around you. The more you manage to understand what those around you feel the better you are going to become in your social interactions and managing the emotions of those around you. This is why increasing your levels of empathy can provide you with a unique insight into people’s lives and feelings while also helping you deepen your relationships with them.
